North Texas native Milton Williams shines with game-winning performance in Super Bowl LIX

Milton grew up in Crowley and played football at Crowley High School. From there, Milton played college football at Louisiana Tech.

CROWLEY, Texas — Milton and Willanette Williams are flying high.

After all, they’re the proud parents of Super Bowl champion Milton Williams.

“I tell him, ‘When you’re on the field, make them call your name. Bottom line. Make them call your name,'” Milton’s father recalled of his pep talk for his son.

The Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman heard his name called a few times in Super Bowl LIX. The 25-year-old finished with two sacks including one that forced a fumble on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Williams recovered the fumble, too.

Like Mahomes, Williams is a product of Texas high school football.

Milton grew up in Crowley, right outside of Fort Worth. He played football at Crowley High School under then-head coach Chris James.

“Incredible football player, one of the best I’ve ever been around,” James said. “He was an unbelievable teammate. He was a team captain.

Coming in as a high school freshman, Williams wanted to play quarterback.

James said he looked at the size of Milton’s father and presented another option, “I said, ‘Come here, Big Milt. Why don’t you come play defensive line for us?’ And that’s all she wrote.”

From there, Milton played college football at Louisiana Tech. Then in 2021, the Eagles drafted him in the third round.

Williams reached the Super Bowl with the Eagles in his second year but came up short to the Chiefs. In the sequel, the Eagles demolished the Chiefs, 40-22, thanks in large part to Williams and the Philly defensive line.

“It was a whole team collective effort,” noted Milton’s father. “I was like, ‘Did they drink a whole case of Red Bull or what?'”

It may have also been Williams’ final game in an Eagles uniform.

Williams is set to become an unrestricted free agent and will be highly coveted by other teams. Not to mention, his price tag only went up after a dominant performance in the Super Bowl.

“God had his hand on my son,” said Milton’s father. “At that moment, on the biggest stage, he has a great game. Two sacks and a forced fumble.”

As confetti smothered the Superdome turf in New Orleans, the Willaims family celebrated on the field.

“I hugged him, he said, ‘Dad, I got it. I got it.’ It made me tear up,” detailed Milton’s father.

Willanette added, “I don’t have time to cry because I’m consoling [Milton’s father] and calming him down. But, yeah, I had some tears of joy and so did Milton. We embraced for a really long time.”

Smiles and tears to commemorate all the hard work, since childhood, to reach the top of the football world.

“I’m bubbling,” chuckled Milton’s father. “I’m a Super Bowl Dad. I’m a Super Bowl Dad. That has a nice ring to it, don’t it?”
