North Texas restaurant, music venue closing for ‘renovation’

The venue has an extensive lineup of shows for the week ahead of a New Year’s Eve Bash before it closes.

THE COLONY, Texas — A North Texas music venue and restaurant is closing in January for what it says will be “a thorough renovation.”

Lava Cantina, a coastal Mexican restaurant and music venue that opened in The Colony in the 5800 block of Grandscape Boulevard in 2017, said in a post on social media that it’s closing on Jan. 1 for renovations.

The venue has an extensive lineup of shows for the week ahead of a New Year’s Eve Bash.

“Even during this pause, we’ll host select private parties and events—so stay tuned for updates,” Lava Cantina’s post continued.

The Lava Cantina concept was founded by father-and-son Steve and Ian Vaughn in 2013, according to their website. Prior to starting the venue, Steve had worked in the music business for more than 40 years and Ian worked in the restaurant industry, including as COO of Raising Cane’s.

The menu for the restaurant includes everything from wings and burgers to tacos and more, according to their website.

Lava Cantina reportedly closed a location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2018, but the location in The Colony remained.

The venue in The Colony, which has space for about 1,800 people, hosts hundreds of shows each year.

It’s unclear what the renovations will entail and when the venue could reopen.
