According to police, the incident began with a large parking lot fight.
DALLAS — A man is in critical condition after he was shot by a security officer during a fight on Sunday, July 28.
According to police, officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 9100 block of Skillman Street around 4:40 a.m. that morning.
When officers arrived, police say they didn’t find a shooting victim, but discovered that a man and multiple people were fighting in the parking lot.
According to police, a licensed security officer pepper sprayed the crowd and everyone dispersed. However, the man refused to leave and ran towards a car, mentioning a weapon.
Police say the security officer then pepper sprayed the man, which also affected him. Once the security officer was able to recover and get to the car, police say the man raised a weapon.
In response to this act, police say the security officer fired his gun, hitting the man. The injured man then left the scene.
According to police, another call came in about a shooting in the 8200 block of Meadow Road and officers found the injured man from the original call.
Police say the man was taken to the hospital and was last listed in critical condition.
The Dallas Police Department says this investigation is ongoing and will be referred to a Grand Jury.
