North Texas to see dueling weather threats Wednesday of thunderstorms and fire threat

It’s a tale of two weather forecasts for North Texans wondering what to expect Wednesday afternoon: fire threat to the west, thunderstorm warnings to the east.

The tipping point from one threat to the other is the Interstate 35 corridor, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

To the west, strong winds and low humidity are contributing to a critical fire threat for the areas between Graham and Killeen. Those conditions, expected between noon and 8 p.m., make it much easier for wildfire to spread quickly if one were to catch.

Nearly all counties west of the I-35 corridor are under a critical fire threat Wednesday afternoon, according to a weather service graphic.

To the east, severe thunderstorms may develop between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. They are predicted to be the most severe in the Northern portion of that region, along the eastern edge of Dallas-Fort Worth and up to Paris.

Large hail and damaging winds are expected to be the greatest threats.

Later in the week on Friday, the entire North Texas region is expected to have wildfire threat conditions. Humidity will be quite low, between 10-15% for much of the area.
