Northeast Side home damaged by early-morning fire; no one injured

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio firefighters battled heavy flames at a house fire on the city’s Northeast Side early Thursday morning.

The fire was called in around 7:15 a.m. at a home in the 13100 block of Turkey Feather Drive, not far from Lookout Road and Judson Road and Interstate 35.

Firefighters said when they arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames. They were able to knock the fire out quickly and without incident.

Fire officials said no one was inside at the time of the fire. Since it was daytime, they received multiple calls about the fire. SAPD said they arrived fast enough to ensure it did not spread to any nearby homes.

A home renter spoke to KSAT 12 and said she had to wait to hear the fate of her 26-year-old son, who might have been in the house. Firefighters searched the home twice and found no pets and nobody inside. The son later showed up at the scene uninjured, a battalion chief said.

The cause of the fire is not currently known. A fire investigation team is now working to determine the exact cause. A damage estimate was not given.

According to the San Antonio Fire Department website, as many as 17 units answered the call.
