SAN ANTONIO – A shooting on the Northeast Side of San Antonio led to an hours-long partial lockdown of St. Philip’s College on Tuesday afternoon, according to San Antonio police.
The initial shooting happened around 4 p.m. in the 5100 block of North Foster Road. SAPD said a man was shot in the upper body and hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities are not sure how many other people were involved in the shooting, but a vehicle fled afterward, according to SAPD.
Police said that one or several people later abandoned that vehicle on Dakota Street and ran to a home on South Walters Street near St. Philp’s College, which initiated the lockdown of several buildings.
After several hours, eight people were detained after exiting the home and turning themselves in, SAPD said.
Some of them told officers that there were still people inside the house, but nobody else had come out after being told to.
It’s unclear how many were connected to the Northeast Side shooting.
Several streets near the East Side community college were blocked off Tuesday evening.
The lockdown ended around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, and, according to the college, all campus activities have resumed.
