The Annual Gracie Awards, presented by The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation, has honored the achievements of women working in media for more than four decades. Named after the late actress and radio host Gracie Allen, these awards recognize exemplary programming created by, for, and about women. Today, NPR is proud to announce that NPR Reporting has won seven awards:
In the Radio ‐ Nationally Syndicated Non‐Commercial category:
Leila Fadel won the Host award for her work as Morning Edition host. Lilly Quiroz won the Producer award for the Morning Edition story “Singer and songwriter iLe’s third album, ‘Nacarile,’ finds a world deeply in flux.” The piece was edited by Phil Harrell. Elissa Nadworny and Lauren Migaki won the Series award for their story “Getting a bachelor’s degree in prison is rare. That’s about to change.” The series was edited by Steve Drummond. Tovia Smith won the News Feature award for “Grief and Grit: 10 years after Sandy Hook, one woman continues to wrestle with her double loss.” The piece was edited by Catherine Laidlaw and mixed by Walter Ray Watson and Liz Baker. Debbie Elliott and NPR’s National Desk won the Crisis Coverage/Breaking News award for coverage of Hurricane Ian and the Jackson Water Crisis. This work was produced by Liz Baker and Walter Ray Watson and edited by Russell Lewis. Elissa Nadworny won the Interview Feature award for a story “They’ve spent a lifetime in Kyiv. Not everyone can flee Russia’s war in Ukraine .” The story was edited by Arezou Rezvani and mixed by Taylor Haney.
In the Digital Media Student Winners category:
Life Kit won the Original Online Programming award for “How to transition to natural hair ‐‐ and learn to love it” by Vanessa Handy. The audio portion was produced by 2021-2022 Kroc Fellow Michelle Aslam and edited by Meghan Keane with engineering support from Maggie Luthar. The digital story was edited by Malaka Gharib.
