Oak Cliff resident speaks out against uncollected trash ‘monster’ at apartment complex

Oak Cliff neighbors complain about trash buildup in their apartment complex.

DALLAS — This trash is hard to miss. It’s so large, it can be seen from space.

Tasha Johnson McCloud called the mass “a monster.” She lives at 2704 CDMX Apartments in Oak Cliff. Every time she walks out her front door, she is met with three large dumpsters piled up to the top.

“Sometimes it gives me anxiety, you know, I have kids. I have dogs,” Johnson McCloud said. “Just breathing in this contaminated air, you know, who knows if this can get us, you know, make us sick or whatever.”

Google Earth first spotted the dumpsters in November 2023. They are owned by Delta Waste Services

“They were coming around here on time to actually empty the containers but recently, you know, since October, November of last year, it’s been sitting here,” said Johnson McCloud.

What changed? Delta Waste told WFAA that the property is currently in rental payments, and the waste company can only pick up trash at the property management’s request. They said they must have approval first.

“Rent is too expensive to be ignored. That’s how I feel. So, if we’re paying this high expense of rent, I expect things to be fixed in a timely fashion,” Johnson McCloud said.

WFAA reached out to the City of Dallas. Within an hour of being at the complex, Code Enforcement arrived.

The city said there have been five confirmed violations in the past year. Three of those violations were for different issues and are still in progress. The city said the last graded inspection was in 2023. The next is scheduled for April.

A leasing office employee said a company called Aurox recently bought the complex. The employee referred WFAA to their manager at another property. When WFAA arrived at the second property — The Muse — the manager would not come out of her office, and said she was not responding.

“It’s just small issues like that it gets a lot of people frustrated,” Johnson McCloud said.

That frustration is paying off because, after calls and emails, Delta Waste started removing the trash. However, Johnson McCloud said it is too little too late.

“Home is supposed to be safe,” Johnson McCloud said. “I wouldn’t recommend my worst enemy to come move here.”
