The officer who was shot was taken to a local hospital with injuries that appear to be non-life threatening.
LONGVIEW, Texas — Longview police say a man was arrested after shooting an officer Saturday night.
According to the Longview Police Department, around 11:20 p.m., authorities responded to the 700 block of Lincoln Dr., on reports of a vehicle burglary in progress.
“Once on scene, officers discovered a vehicle had been burglarized,” the LPD said in a statement. “As they began searching the area, they located an individual inside a second vehicle on Kenwood Drive. Officers attempted to detain the burglary suspect and he fled on foot.”
Longview police say after a brief chase, officers caught up with the suspect and tried taking him into custody.
“At that time the officers did not know the suspect was armed with a handgun,” the LPD said. “While attempting to handcuff the suspect, one officer was shot and other officers on scene began rendering first aid and called for Longview Fire EMS.”

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was placed into custody following the shooting. He is facing multiple criminal charges.
