RUSK COUNTY, Texas — The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect accused of shooting an East Texas man who later died after being put on life support.
According to Rusk County judicial records, James Dillon Little, was initially booked into the Rusk County Jail on Thursday for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury in connection with the shooting of Matthew Mefford, 46, who was put on life support following the incident. Mefford died Friday, officials said.
Mefford was found shot in the head Tuesday on Rusk County Road 411D. He was taken to a Henderson hospital and later flown to Tyler for further treatment before he passed. Statements led investigators to believe the shooting stemmed from a fight over a woman.
Bond for Little has been set at $1 million.
