‘Our Country Misses You’: Eric Trump Delivers Fiery Speech in Support of His Father at the RNC

There has been no shortage of speakers at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee — and no shortage of speakers named Trump. RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, addressed the convention on Tuesday evening. Eldest son Don Jr. spoke Wednesday evening — though his 17-year-old daughter, Kai, stole a bit of his thunder.

Thursday night, the last night of the convention, Eric Trump spoke ahead of his father’s address, following moving remarks and prayer offered by Franklin Graham. Eric began by reflecting on his father’s announcement to the family eight years ago that he’d made a decision that would forever change their lives.

As Eric described, his father stepped “into the arena to fight for the soul of America. He answered the call to serve our nation.” And he did so out of love for the country and “deep concern for America’s future.”

Trump warned his family that they would be subject to vicious attacks. As Eric noted wryly, that was a serious understatement.

Yet through it all, noted Eric about his father, “He’s shown unwavering courage and determination, not just in public, but in every private conversation with me and our family.”

Eric described his father’s first presidency — one that “restored hope and restored a voice to millions of Americans who had been ignored” and one that “restored the American Dream.” He listed the many accomplishments of Trump’s presidency.

Eric noted that the “Swamp” is terrified of Trump and has done everything they can to keep him from the American people, noting that “They have failed and they will not win.”

As Eric observed regarding his father, “He is not a threat to democracy. He is a threat to those who despise our republic.”

Eric then addressed Americans from all walks of life, Americans who are struggling and disheartened. To each group, he apologized. “I’m sorry. It does not have to be this way….Your government can do so much better — and it will…I’m sorry. That man right there will fix this.”

Eric reiterated the theme that Trump’s “retribution” will be success, predicting: “TheSwamp will be drained. America will be respected. Our cities will be safe. Our streets will be clean…The border will once again be secured. We will have peace. We will have prosperity.”

Eric described his father as “a man who believed in the promise of America when others turned away. A man who survived a bullet that was designed to eliminate him from our future and from our family,” adding, “Never have I been more proud to be a Trump. Never have I been more proud to stand by my father’s side.”

Eric got emotional as he described his family’s reaction to the assassination attempt.

Dad, five days ago, Lara, Luke, Carolina, and I held our breath as we saw blood pour across your face. By the grace of God, divine intervention, and your guardian angels up above, you survived. You are the greatest fighter I have ever seen. You. are strong, you are full of life…Your conviction to fight for what is right and against what is wrong is truly next level. The whole world saw your strength as you stood up.

Eric ended by letting his father know how much he is loved and appreciated.

I’m honored to be your son. You are a true leader. You epitomize strength. Our country loves you. Our country appreciates you. Our country misses you. And on November 5th, our country will reelect you as the 47th President of the United States of America.
