Pair assaulted outside AT&T stadium at Dallas Cowyboys game, Arlington police say

A couple was injured in a fight outside a Cowboys game last month and a man was arrested outside AT&T Stadium, Arlington police say.

Authorities responded to the fight on Sept. 22 and arrested 32-year-old Rafael Ramirez on two counts of assault. He also faces a drug charge for a substance found when he was searched, police said. It is unclear if he has an attorney.

Off-duty Arlington police who were working the game responded to the intersection of Cowboys Way and AT&T Way to investigate a reported fight. When they arrived, they found the man and woman injured on the ground.

Witnesses identified Ramirez as the instigator of the fight and authorities detained him. Witnesses told police they heard the couple exchange words with Ramirez before they saw Ramirez punch the man in the face, police said.

The woman tried to break up the fight but was also punched, police said. Witnesses reported that Ramirez kicked the woman in the face while she was on the ground, according to police.

The couple was taken to a hospital with what police called “non-life-threatening” injuries.

The woman, Lindsey Gonzalez, told KTVT-TV (Channel 11) that she was knocked unconscious and had about a dozen fractures to her face. It took four metal plates to repair the damage and doctors are unsure whether she will look the same. The man, Wenceslao Gonzalez, had surgery to repair torn ligaments in his leg, according to the outlet.

The Gonzalezes told Channel 11that their family was attending its first Cowboys game when the assault happened, and said they wouldn’t be returning to the stadium.

Ramirez was booked into the Arlington jail before being transferred to the Tarrant County jail, police said. He was released on bond the night after the fight, online records show.
