Edinburg, TX – In an ongoing effort to bring wide-ranging businesses to the area, the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation (EEDC) is excited to announce that Panera Bread, a popular bakery-cafe restaurant, is set to make its debut in the Rio Grande Valley with a location in Edinburg.
The city’s Panera Bread, located at 201 E. Trenton Road, is one of two coming to the region for the first time. Merit Commercial Real Estate, a San Antonio-based development and investment company, plans to open the 3,800-square-foot restaurant to patrons in November 2024.
“Our goal has always been to facilitate the growth of a healthy economy in Edinburg,” EEDC Board President Veronica Gonzales said. “Panera Bread is a wonderful example of how national businesses are noticing our city and taking its economic impact into account when choosing where to expand. We know that this is just the start of what is to come, and we are thrilled to see Panera thrive here.”
With more than 2,100 locations nationwide, Edinburg’s newest eatery will create 40 full-time jobs with a capital investment of $5.9 million.“This is an exciting opportunity for Edinburg residents to enjoy a restaurant we haven’t seen in the Rio Grande Valley before,” Mayor Ramiro Garza, Jr. said. “Our list of retailers continues to expand, reflecting Edinburg’s growing appeal for business investment. Panera Bread is a continuation of the success we’re seeing in attracting new businesses to our city.”Visitors will be able to enjoy a sit-down-style experience, as well as a drive-thru option.
“We could not be more excited to open the first Panera Bread restaurants in the region. As the largest retail landlord and developer in the Rio Grande Valley, we spend a lot of time recruiting first-class restaurants and retailers. Panera Bread has been at the top of our list for the past 5 years,” said Will Collins, CEO of Merit Commercial Real Estate.
