Before we begin, a bit of housekeeping is in order with this “diversity, equity, and inclusion” business. I’ll fix it: “selective diversity, inequity, and exclusion.” There, that looks more like it. Now, let us continue.
As more U.S. corporations increasingly embrace the adoption of racial and ethnic preferences in hiring, lending, and training opportunities, solely for the politically-correct purpose of equalizing outcomes in the name of “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” legal experts warn that such activities are likely in violation of both civil rights laws and fiduciary responsibility to corporate shareholders. One need look no further than the raging dumpster fire purposely created by Disney over “all of the above.”
As reported by John Solomon’s Just the News, one of the corporations under fire is pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, of COVID-19 vaccination “fame.” Pfizer’s new “Breakthrough Fellowship Program” explicitly excluded Whites and Asians from applying. The company describes the “prestigious” internship program as a “bold move” to “create a workplace for all” (except white people and Asians, of course.)
Only “Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, and Native American” students can apply, according to the fellowship’s requirements. Multiple internships, a fully funded graduate program, and years of employment at the company are available. (Did I mention that white people and Asians need not apply?)
Gail Heriot, a law professor at the University of San Diego who also sits on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, told Just the News that Pfizer’s program is not only likely illegal but also part of a growing trend among corporations to discriminate against white and Asian people in the name of diversity.
More and more American corporations seem to believe that civil rights laws don’t apply to them. It’s an alarming trend. They apparently believe that they can discriminate against Asian Americans and whites without fear of liability. They are going to find out that [the] law doesn’t work that way.
It should be noted that not only the law but the U.S Constitution as well “doesn’t work that way” regarding Joe Biden’s executive orders and edicts, either, but here we find ourselves, nonetheless. Given the state of Democrat-driven racial division in America, we’ll see.
“Shockingly,” Pfizer didn’t respond to a request for comment from Just the News, but the company said in a 2021 report that it seeks to “embed DEI [diversity, equity, and inclusion] into our DNA,” and CEO Albert Bourla in 2020 made “equity” one of the company’s “core values.” “We don’t just talk about the importance of equity,” Bourla said at the time. “We put our words into action.”
While Pfizer may not be the proverbial Lone Ranger in its clear violation of civil rights laws, in my not-so-humble opinion, its “Breakthrough Fellowship Program” is among the richest, as outlined on the BFP site.
Students will be eligible to apply during their Junior year of college. Successful Fellows will participate in all five components of the program:
An initial 10-week summer internship for rising undergraduate college seniors
2 years of full-time employment after Undergraduate graduation
After 2 years, a fully paid scholarship to complete a full-time, 2-year MBA, MPH or MS Statistics program
Summer internship between the first and second years of the MBA / MPH or MS Statistics program
Return to Pfizer for employment post-program graduation
Applications for the 2023 Breakthrough Fellowship Program will open shortly end of Summer 2022, beginning Fall 2022.
Not a bad handout internship if you can get it. That is unless you’re white or Asian. Did I mention that?
