GLADEWATER, Texas — One person was hospitalized following a plane crash Monday night in Gladewater.
According to Gladewater Fire Chief Mike Simmons, crews responded to the Gladewater Municipal Airport around 10:15 p.m., after the pilot of an AA-5A single-engine aircraft crashed after missing the runway due to a possible mechanical failure.
The 24-year-old pilot, who was from the Dallas area, was taken to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. Chief Simmons believes the pilot had landed in Gladewater to possibly refuel before continuing to the Rusk area. The pilot reportedly told officials at the scene the took off and lost power. He tried to circle back to land, but crashed into the grass on the ride of the runway.
