Police have arrested Joel Sac Tambriz for a June 2024 hit-and-run that killed Daniel Cruces, following an investigation by the Arlington Police Department.
ARLINGTON, Texas — Police arrested a man in connection to a June 2024 fatal hit-and-run that killed 30-year-old Daniel Cruces, the Arlington Police Department announced Tuesday.
Police said 25-year-old Joel Sac Tambriz was arrested by Victoria police on March 10 on one count of collision involving death.
The crash happened at approximately 2:01 a.m. on June 9, 2024. Officers responded to the intersection of State Highway Spur 303 and South Center Street to investigate an auto-pedestrian collision. When officers got there, they found Cruces lying unresponsive in the roadway, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Witnesses told police that Cruces was using the crosswalk at the intersection, attempting to cross from the north side of the street to the south side, when he was hit by a black Honda Civic travelling eastbound on State Highway Spur 303. The driver, later identified by police as Tambriz, did not stop and drove away, the APD said.
Police said officers found the Honda Civic abandoned not far from the crash site in the 700 block of State Highway Spur 303. The abandoned vehicle was registered to Tambriz. Investigators also recovered documents and a phone inside the car that belonged to Tambriz.
Tambriz had also been previously pulled over by police in that same vehicle in January 2024, their investigation found.
Tambriz was booked into the Victoria County Jail where he awaits extradition to Tarrant County.
