There are six other locations of the sandwich shop across Dallas-Fort Worth.
ADDISON, Texas — A popular North Texas sandwich shop has closed after 45 years.
The longest-running Great Outdoors location in North Texas – at 5290 Belt Line Road in the Prestonwood Place shopping center east of the Dallas North Tollway near the intersection of Belt Line Road and Montfort Drive – closed Jan. 31.
“Thanks to all of you for 45 GREAT years at this location,” The Great Outdoors sub shop shared in a post on its social media pages. “We look forward to seeing you at 1 of our 6 other locations.”
New Jersey native Jerry Oliverie opened the original The Great Outdoors sandwich shop in downtown Dallas in 1973, according to their website. The menu features ham, turkey, and roast beef sub sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, ice cream, cookies and more.
The Great Outdoors still has locations in Frisco, at 2330 Preston Road; Fort Worth, at 3204 Camp Bowie Road; Richardson, at 2005 Alamo Road; Carrollton, at 4043 Trinity Mills Road; McKinney, at 1751 Eldorado Parkway; and Dallas, at 6918 Greenville Avenue.
The Prestonwood Place shopping center still maintains a range of old and new restaurants, including Asian Mint, La La Land Kind Café, Loro Asian Smokehouse and Bar, Flower Child, Mendocino Farms, The Original Pancake House, and more.
