Power outages for San Antonio’s North Side improve, last rounds of freezing rain expected in the Hill Country through the overnight

Photos sent in via KSAT Connect show that freezing rain accumulation overnight has resulted in tree limbs coming down, and subsequently powerlines falling across northern parts of San Antonio and Bexar County. Remember that downed powerlines are dangerous and should be avoided. Those who live generally north of Loop 410 managed to find ice accumulation overnight Tuesday and early Wednesday morning.

As of 2:30 p.m., neighborhoods like Fair Oaks Ranch, Helotes, and Timberwood Park are still reporting power outages, but the number of outages continues to improve as crews work diligently to restore power. Flashes could be seen across the north side of town earlier this morning thanks to falling tree branches and ice on powerlines. Some roadways have also seen ice, too. Loop 1604, along the city’s north side, has seen multiple crashes with heavier travel impacts noted across the Hill Country. Meantime, for those south of Loop 410, precipitation has been mainly in the form of light to moderate rainfall. The airport has picked up over half-inch of rainfall with this event.

WEDNESDAY (2/1)

Many schools have opted to close today. You can click here for a complete list. Precipitation will continue through the day, however, it’ll be lighter than what we dealt with overnight. Temperatures have risen above freezing, at least by a few degrees, across the majority of San Antonio helping the situation. Still, slick bridges and overpasses may still be an issue for northern Bexar County.
Travel across the Hill Country will remain treacherous today. Temperatures are forecast to remain below freezing in these areas. Power outages are likely a problem for the Hill Country, too.
Light showers are still possible tonight with temperatures still above freezing for most of San Antonio, but the last few instances of light, freezing rain are possible across portions of the Hill Country.

THURSDAY (2/2)

A few lingering showers are possible Thursday morning, but skies will start to clear in the afternoon with highs in the upper-40s.

FRIDAY (2/3) INTO THE WEEKEND

Returning to seasonable, sunny weather. Highs in the 60s!
