Prosper ISD construction site catches fire, 1 firefighter injured

 

The Richland High School construction site caught fire overnight Saturday. One firefighter was injured, officials said.

PROSPER, Texas — One firefighter was injured while putting out a fire at a Prosper ISD construction site, officials said. 

The Prosper Fire Department responded to a fire around 2:31 a.m. at the Richland High School construction site located at 3450 Prairie Drive, the Prosper Fire Department said in a press release. The school is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in August 2025, Prosper ISD said. 

Fire crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the rooftop, the release states. The department sought mutual aid from the Frisco Fire Department. Firefighters contained the blaze around 3:10 a.m., officials said. 

One firefighter was injured while containing the fire, the department said. He was hospitalized and later released. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation, the district said. Firefighters will evaluate damage to the construction site, the district said. Prosper ISD is working to ensure construction stays on schedule to open this summer, the district said.
