With their first pick of the 2024 MLB draft, the Red Sox selected Texas A&M outfielder Braden Montgomery at No. 12 overall.

Montgomery, 21, went to high school in Mississippi and played two years at Stanford before transferring to Texas A&M for his junior season. A 6-foot-2, 220-lb. switch-hitter who throws right-handed, Montgomery hit .322 with 27 homers, 85 RBIs and a 1.187 OPS in 61 games for the Aggies, who fell to Tennessee in the finals of the College World Series. Montgomery is considered to be a better hitter from the left side but said he plans to continue to hit from both sides of the plate as he enters pro ball.
