Renowned gastropub is closing after 15 years in the Dallas Design District

It’s not clear what will come into the space after the gastropub closes, but it’s expected to be another food and beverage concept.

DALLAS — A renowned Dallas gastropub is closing after 15 years in the Design District.

Meddlesome Moth, which is touted as Dallas’ premier gastropub in the 1600 block of Oak Lawn Avenue will close May 20, HN Capital Partners, which owns land in the Design District, confirmed in a statement to WFAA.

Meddlesome Moth has a full-service restaurant, including everything from Peking duck, short rib, steak, pork chops, and a burger, to seafood, nachos and Thai duck wings, according to their website.

Nitin Nambiar, a spokesperson for HN Capital Partners, said the items in the restaurant, including three, iconic 13-foot stained glass windows belong to the owns of Meddlesome Moth and “will probably be removed once the restaurant closes.”

“The window designs were a collaborative effort between Jeff Smith, Ben James, Issac Tigrett, and Ellen Soderquist. Following a challenging relocation from their previous residence, these windows underwent meticulous restoration, and due to their substantial size, they had to be suspended from the ceiling,” a blog post on the Dallas Design District’s website says of the windows.

WFAA has reached out to Meddlesome Moth for comment. We’ll update this story as additional information becomes available.

HN Capital Partners, though, cites rising rent prices as a reason for the closure.

“I am very sad to see Meddlesome Moth leave the district. We did everything to get the restaurateur to understand current market conditions, and the impracticality of anchoring on decades old rent levels, but they were unable to make it work as the restaurants revenues had dwindled substantially,” Nambiar said in a statement. “We know they will keep doing great work, and we wish them luck in other endeavors. On our part, we remain committed to providing a great canvas for local and national talent to bring creative concepts to the district, and there are some exciting announcements of local talent coming soon that will further enrich the neighborhood.”

Nambiar said they haven’t finalized a new tenant for the space, but it will be a new concept “from another local talent in the Dallas F&B industry.”
