Report: Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott will be inactive, not travel to Atlanta for ‘disciplinary reasons’

The decision to make Elliott inactive was a matter of “discipline” and leaving him at home was a “mutual agreement to not make the trip,” team sources told WFAA.

DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys will reportedly be without one of its top running backs for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Ezekiel Elliott is expected to be inactive and not travel to Atlanta for the game “because of disciplinary reasons,” sources confirmed to WFAA.

WFAA has reached out to the Cowboys for more information.

Elliott is the first player in NFL history to suffer a decline in his rushing yards-per-game average for seven consecutive seasons, and 2024 seems certain to extend that streak.

Prescott is understandably sympathetic to his teammate and close friend, praising his commitment to the team.

“That’s a guy who’s used to playing a lot,’’ Prescott said before the Steelers game. “Yeah, I’m sure it’s frustrating. I can’t imagine being in that position, having to come off the field.”

“He’s coming in, doing everything that he needs to do for this team, and just trying to make the most of his opportunities to keep himself on the field. And that’s what a pro does,” Prescott added.

Elliott returned to the Cowboys this season and has 149 yards on 48 carries and two touchdowns in seven games.

This comes after fellow running back Rico Dowdle was listed as inactive last week for a reported illness, but was seen on the sidelines signing fan autographs

Elliott would join Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland on the inactive list, who are each battling injuries that have kept them out for weeks.

Dallas kicks off against Atlanta at noon CT on Sunday.
