The outlet reported:
President-elect Donald J. Trump is expected to name Senator Marco Rubio of Florida as his secretary of state, three people familiar with his thinking said on Monday, as Mr. Trump moves rapidly to fill out his foreign policy and national security team.
Mr. Trump could still change his mind at the last minute, the people said, but appeared to have settled on Mr. Rubio, whom he also considered when choosing his running mate this year.
Rubio has served in the Senate since 2010 and ran for President in 2016. Rubio was on Trump’s short-list for a running mate this year, and stayed a loyal surrogate even after being passed over.

Last week Rubio said that the war in Ukraine had become a stalemate and that “it’s time for some commonsense here.”

Rubio said:
They don’t admit it publicly, but if you ask the Biden administration they will tell you we are funding a stalemate. I think the Ukrainians have been incredibly brave and strong in standing up to Russia, but at the end of the day, what we are funding here is a stalemate war, and it needs to be brought to a conclusion, because that country is going to be set back 100 years.
Now, that doesn’t mean that we celebrate what Vladimir Putin did or are excited about it, but I think there has to also be some commonsense here, and that is that right now what we are funding is a stalemate that’s costing lives. It’s gonna take 100 years to rebuild that poor country with everything they’re facing.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) will appoint Rubio’s successor should he ultimately be appointed and confirmed.
