Residents displaced after apartment fire at Northwest Side complex, SAFD says

SAN ANTONIO – Residents are displaced after a fire caused heavy smoke damage to a second-story apartment at a Northwest Side complex, according to San Antonio Fire Department.

The fire happened just before 8 p.m. Saturday in the 3400 block of Fredericksburg Road.

Initially, fire crews believed the apartment that caught fire was vacant. However, after further investigation, firefighters said it became apparent that someone did live there.

The fire was contained to the first floor, but the heavy smoke caused damage to an apartment above the fire on the second floor and to an adjoining unit on the first floor.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly, though the unit that caught fire sustained significant damage. No injuries were reported.

Residents living in the second-floor apartment with the smoke damage are displaced, SAFD said.

The complex’s property manager is looking to help relocate the residents but if unable, the Red Cross will assist, according to fire officials.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
