SAN ANTONIO – The courses are set for the biggest running event of the year in San Antonio.
Contrary to recent years, the start and end locations for the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Antonio Running Series marathon and the half-marathon on Dec. 4 will not be located near Hemisfair.
Instead, both courses will start at San Antonio City Hall and head up north to Broadway and Brackenridge Park.
At mile five, both races will enter Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston and wind through the base for three miles.
The half-marathon course will head back downtown, while the marathon course will head to the East and Southeast Sides before going back west to downtown.
Both races will end in front of the UTSA downtown campus.
The layouts for the 5K and 10K, both on Dec. 3, have not been released, as of Monday.
“Runners from all over the world are invited to experience San Antonio’s vibrance and cultural heritage,” Mayor Ron Nirenberg said in a news release. “As Military City, USA, we are proud to showcase our rich military history as we welcome participants through JBSA-Fort Sam Houston.”
This will be the 14th Rock ‘n’ Roll running event to take place in the Alamo City. The series typically attracts about 20,000 runners each year.
