SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Fire Department said that approximately 100 San Antonio firefighters responded to a North Side apartment fire on Friday.
Crews were dispatched to the scene just before 5 p.m. in the 2500 block of Jacks on Keller Road, which is located east of Vance Jackson Road and north of Loop 410.
An SAFD official on the scene said the fire started on the upper floor of the three-story building and began spreading to the attic.
Crews said an unobstructed, northerly wind may be a reason the fire was able to spread.
During the apartment building fire, SAFD said its roof collapsed. Because of the collapse, at least half of the building is considered a “total loss,” the SAFD official said.
The fire has since been knocked down, firefighters said. Residents were able to escape the flames before the building’s roof collapsed.
No injuries have been reported, authorities said.
SAFD said residents in 22 of the 26 units in that single apartment building will be relocated into temporary housing.
