AUSTIN (KXAN) — Former Texas Longhorns offensive lineman Sam Cosmi will miss the rest of the postseason after tearing his ACL in the Commanders’ NFC divisional round upset win over Detroit on Saturday.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn confirmed the injury during a Sunday press conference, calling it “unfortunate.”
“He’s been a significant part of what we’re doing, especially in the interior,” Quinn said. “It’s a big deal, the ballplayer and the man.”
Quinn said Trent Scott took “the bulk of the reps” in relief of Cosmi, but he will see what kind of matchups they could get against the Philadelphia Eagles if they stick with Scott at offensive guard for the NFC championship game.
Cosmi will most likely miss a portion of next season recovering from the injury, but he’s still guaranteed his $15.5 million salary for 2025. He’s under contract with the Commanders through the 2027 season.

Cosmi was a second-round pick of the Commanders (51st overall) in the 2021 draft. In his fourth year with the team, he’s started 49 games and appeared in 57. He started every game this season and last season.
Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels helped lead the Commanders to a 45-31 win over the top-seeded Lions at Ford Field to advance to the NFC title game against the Eagles. Philly turned away a late drive and beat the LA Rams 28-22 on a snowy Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
