SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio man has pleaded guilty to giving a woman fentanyl and leaving her alone in a hotel room, where she overdosed and died, according to federal authorities.
Patrick James Hall, 28, was charged with the distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. He pleaded guilty on Wednesday and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 15, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Hall was selling fentanyl in the form of a blue pill that was disguised as oxycodone. He was selling the drug at a hotel, where he met the 20-year-old victim on Oct. 28, 2020.
At some point, the woman overdosed on the pill and became unconscious “for an extended period of time,” the release states.
She had a missed call from a friend, and Hall later returned that phone call. Hall told her friend that she needed to pick up the woman because she had overdosed.
He then left the hotel room without calling 911, authorities said.
The woman’s friend called the authorities and they responded to the hotel. The news release states that when they arrived, the woman had already been dead for “some time.”
“A toxicology report showed that the victim had an amount of fentanyl in her blood that exceeded 24 times a fatal dose,” the release states.
Hall was arrested on Nov. 19, 2020. The release states that he had been selling the pills to multiple people, and he had even overdosed on the pills himself.
Hall is facing up to 20 years to life in prison. The Drug Enforcement Agency and San Antonio Police Department are investigating the case.
