SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio native has been identified as one of the 10 victims killed in last week’s small commuter plane crash in Alaska, according to a family member.
Carol Mooers, 48, was aboard the small commercial plane when it went down on Thursday, Feb. 6, Mooers’ sister, Sharon Florence, told KSAT on Sunday.
Florence said Mooers was traveling to pick up students for college tours in Juneau and Anchorage at the time of the crash.
Authorities said the plane was traveling from Unalakleet to Nome, western Alaska. Officials said the aircraft was located in the icy Bering Sea on Friday, Feb. 7.
Before Mooers moved to Alaska three years ago, Florence said she worked as a teacher and counselor for the Edgewood and Harlandale independent school districts.
In Alaska, Florence said Mooers continued her work as a counselor in Unalakleet.
Mooers, an Army veteran, attended Incarnate Word High School and later graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio, according to Florence.
Florence said Mooers is survived by her husband and her two sons.
Authorities said they have recovered all victims killed in the crash on Saturday. However, they are still working to identify them all.
At this time, investigators are working to determine what caused the plane to crash.
