San Antonio police arrest suspect after standoff on Southeast Side, SAPD says

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police arrested a 20-year-old man following a standoff at an apartment complex on the Southeast Side on Monday.

Officers responded to a family violence call in the 4700 block of Stringfellow Drive, near Pecan Valley Drive, around 2:48 p.m. after receiving information that a man had allegedly shot at his wife and was making homicidal and suicidal threats.

Upon arrival, officers began negotiating with the man, who has not been identified, to release his wife and their two children from the apartment, SAPD said.

The man allowed his family to leave the apartment safely. However, he then barricaded the front door and refused to surrender, police said.

A standoff ensued, prompting the deployment of a K-9 unit, hostage negotiators, and a SWAT team to the scene.

The standoff concluded at nearly 8:40 p.m. when the man got out of the apartment and was arrested without incident. He was taken into custody and booked on two active warrants.
