According to SAPD, a driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee told police they entered the main lanes of Northeast Loop 410 from the access road at normal highway speeds.

However, witnesses told police that the driver of the Jeep was speeding in addition to weaving in and out of heavy traffic.

Authorities said Friday that the Jeep driver did not see the traffic stopped ahead of them and did not slow down in time before rear-ending a Dodge pickup truck. After the first crash, an SAPD officer at the scene said the Jeep then spun out sideways before colliding with two other vehicles.

Police said Saturday that the Jeep’s collision with the Dodge truck caused serious damage to the Jeep’s passenger side and injured a woman sitting in the Jeep’s passenger seat.

The woman was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital, officers said.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the passenger as 20-year-old Shye Brown on Saturday morning.

Two other people were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the 20-year-old driver of the Jeep could face possible charges related to the crash.

SAPD said its investigation remains ongoing.
