Schlossnagle to Texas: The reactions online to college baseball’s shocking hire were popcorn-worthy

The hire came within 24 hours of Schlossnagle adamantly saying on camera he took the Texas A&M job so he would not take another.

DALLAS — Jim Schlossnagle lost the College World Series to the Tennessee Volunteers and was asked about his future at Texas A&M when UT’s former head coach, David Pierce, was fired earlier that same day.

It was a tough, but necessary question to ask given Schlossnagle’s decade-long relationship to UT Athletic Director Chris Del Conte , who both worked together at TCU. Schlossnagle fired back at the reporter who asked him the question, calling it “selfish” followed by a 35-second diatribe about not leaving the Aggies.

The Aggies fanbase was loud and proud online – their guy adamantly rejected on camera any possibility of going to that team.

And then … Tuesday’s talk of the Internet dropped: Jim Schlossnagle accepted the job to become the University of Texas baseball coach – a complete 180-degree shift from his public comments.

The reaction that ensued was … popcorn worthy.

Schlossnagle will be introduced as Texas’ head coach at a press conference at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. It’ll be streamed live on TexasSports.com.
