Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff spoke to a small crowd at the Broadleaf Brewery in Kentwood, Michigan Thursday to try to plug her presidential campaign. Things didn’t go well for him, however, when he tried to get the audience to join him in a chant of “USA! USA!”

His own attempt at the patriotic chant was already decidedly lame, but the audience’s was even more pathetic as they could barely muster up the enthusiasm to cheer for their country. Cringe:
At first, a few of them tried to go with the flow and join the chant, but then they abruptly stopped as if they suddenly realized, “Hey, we’re Democrats, we don’t chant that.” Watch especially Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo on the left side of the video; her mouth barely moves.
Emhoff had to jump in and say, “You can say it!” as if they needed permission to cheer for our nation. When you have to tell a crowd, “You can say it!” when asking them to join you in a chant, you know you’ve failed.

Emhoff went on to try to sell the idea that his wife was “pro-capitalism.” This is just days after she floated the idea of Soviet-style price controls on groceries:
As I mentioned, Kamala Harris, she’s pro-capitalism, pro-business, pro-growth, and pro-innovation! She wants everyone to succeed in this economy.
Complete absurdity. If she wanted everyone to succeed in this economy, she wouldn’t have been the tie-breaking vote on the Inflation Reduction Act, which contained hundreds of billions in spending and helped shoot inflation through the roof. If she wanted everyone to succeed, she wouldn’t have wholeheartedly supported Bidenomics for the last three and a half years.

Emhoff delivered a decent speech at the DNC recently, but otherwise, he’s not done much to impress. His weak attempt at a USA chant reminds me of other moments when Dems tried to get their supporters to get excited when they clearly weren’t.

Joining in a chant for the USA should be an easy ask, but you could clearly see these folks wanted no part of it. That tells you a lot about what they think of this country.
