The most closely watched primary race in New York state Tuesday was the battle between powerful entrenched House Democrats Carolyn Maloney and Jerry Nadler, both of who are over 70 years old and have been in Congress since the early 1990s.
Though there was quite a bit of mudslinging, with Nadler at one point calling Maloney “cowardly” over some of her past stances and Maloney labeling Nadler as “senile” and “half dead” in the closing days of the campaign, it turns out that what many political observers believed would be a close race ended up being a rout for Nadler, who easily defeated Maloney and Obama alum Suraj Patel for Democratic nomination for the newly-drawn 12th Congressional District according to the numbers reported from Decision Desk HQ:
As I said before, I had no dog in this fight other than to watch fellow Democrats destroy each other and create a lot of bad blood along the way that potentially could spill over into future races, and mark my words – that is exactly what will happen, especially after Maloney’s bitter concession speech Tuesday night in which she blamed the so-called Boys Club and “sexism and misogyny” for her defeat:
Maloney whined that she was the victim of “sexist systems and misogyny” as her supporters vented their wrath at her victorious opponent.
“I’m really sad that we no longer have a woman representing Manhattan in Congress,” Maloney told her teary-eyed boosters, later adding: “In Congress, it is that when women are at the table, great decisions get made.”
The longtime lawmaker also thanked great female New York leaders of the past like Shirley Chisholm and Geraldine Ferraro, who Maloney said “fought sexist systems and misogyny that continues today, as we know from my own campaign” — an obvious dig at Nadler.
Watch:
Again, I’m not a fan of Nadler’s nor Maloney’s, but her concession speech was just pathetic. I mean, think about it: The woman has been in Congress since 1993. At the end of her term, she will have been in office for three decades. New York voters elected her to serve them for multiple terms, but the one race she ends up losing is because of sexism?
This kind of BS defaulting to “sexism” as an excuse when women lose/get rejected/are not taken seriously sets back other women 50 years or more because it shows an inability to consider the possibility that their failures were rooted in their abilities and/or qualifications (and/or lack thereof) rather than simply people rejecting them because they are women.
If women – Democratic women specifically since you rarely see Republican women throw the woman card – want to be viewed as equals to men on the playing field, then they need to learn how to take it like a woman when rejection comes their way and then move on.
“Feminists” like Maloney should save the complaining about sexism for when sexism actually happens because repeatedly falling back on it as an excuse makes it harder for actual victims of sexism to be believed.
After all her time in office, Carolyn Maloney should know this. But Democrat women are so mired in the victimhood mindset that any deviation from it makes them feel like they’re betraying other women, which is nonsense.
If women can be fierce, bold, and brave in the face of all obstacles, then they can also be big girls when it comes to losing/rejection and be able to acknowledge defeat gracefully just like men – for the most part – have been doing in the U.S. political arena for centuries.
After all, isn’t that what true feminism and equality are all about?
