Sources: FC Dallas to name Eric Quill next head coach

Quill comes to FC Dallas after coaching North Texas SC and New Mexico United.

FRISCO, Texas — FC Dallas announced Eric Quill as the club’s next head coach, replacing interim coach Peter Luccin.

Quill, a former Dallas Burn player, was named the first ever head coach for North Texas SC, FC Dallas’ affiliate team, in 2019. Quill was then hired as the head coach for USL Championship club New Mexico United in 2023.

“I’m extremely excited and truly honored to get the opportunity to lead FC Dallas into the 2025 season and beyond. This club has a rich history, values player development and prioritizes competitive excellence,” Quill said in a press release. “I’d like to thank Clark Hunt, Dan Hunt, and André Zanotta for their belief in me. I can’t wait to get started.”

Quill and Luccin were two of three finalists for the job. Luccin had taken over the reigns on an interim basis after FC Dallas moved on from Nico Estevez, who is now Austin FC’s next head coach.

Quill led North Texas SC to its first ever title, the inaugural USL League 1 season in 2019. North Texas SC just won its second ever championship earlier this month, claiming the MLS NEXT Pro championship.

New Mexico United was the top seed in the Western Conference of the USL Championship this past season under Quill. Quill led the club to the USL Championship Western Conference Semifinals and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals.

“We are so excited to welcome Eric Quill back to the FC Dallas family,” said FC Dallas Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt. “Eric is a championship-caliber coach who has experience leading teams to the top of the table. He has a deep knowledge of the game built over three decades as a player and coach at the collegiate, professional, and national team levels, and his keen focus on player development makes him an excellent fit to lead FC Dallas.”

Quill will be the 11th head coach in FC Dallas history, including interim head coaches. FC Dallas will formally introduce Quill at a press conference on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024.
