Travelers will now earn more points for Business Select fares, but earn less points for Wanna Get Away fares.
DALLAS — Members of Southwest Airlines’ Rapid Rewards program may be in for a surprise if they go to book any new flights, as the Dallas-based airline has adjusted how many points members earn from certain fares.
According to a Southwest Airlines spokesperson, the points were adjusted on March 4. Wanna Get Away and Wanna Get Away Plus fares now offer fewer points, while Business Select fares now earn more points.
“Although we modified some ratios for earning points, Southwest Rapid Rewards remains one of the most rewarding and flexible loyalty programs in the airline industry with unlimited reward seats, no blackout dates, and points that don’t expire for all Members,” Southwest said in a statement.
Wanna Get Away fares have been reduced from 6x points per dollar to 2x points per dollar, a 67% decrease, while Wanna Get Away Plus fares have been reduced from 8x points per dollar to 6x points per dollar, a 25% decrease.
Business Select fares have risen from 12x points per dollar to 14x points per dollar, a 17% increase.
The rates for Anytime fares remain the same at 10x points per dollar.
These changes apply to flights booked at or after 12:01 a.m. CT on March 4. So any flights booked before that will retain the previous rates.
