Southwest flight bound for Love Field diverts to DFW after possible brake issue, airline confirms

Southwest Flight 2547 diverted to DFW due to a possible anti-skid brake issue.

DALLAS — There was a rare sighting of a Southwest plane on a DFW Airport runway Monday evening because of a possible brake issue, the airline confirmed.

Flight data shows Southwest Flight 2547 departed from Columbus’ John Glenn International Airport for Love Field around 3:17 p.m. central time. Sometime during the flight, a possible issue was discovered in the Boeing 738’s anti-skid system — a system that prevents wheel lock-up and skidding while braking during landing.

Due to the issue, the flight needed a longer runway, Southwest said. As a result, the flight was diverted to the other airport in town — Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Southwest confirmed. Flight data showed Flight 2547 landed at DFW around 6 p.m.

Southwest says they will make another plane available to customers to get them to Dallas Love Field. The airline also thanked DFW and American Airlines for assisting with the aircraft switch.

A Southwest spokesperson sent WFAA the following statement:

“Southwest Airlines Flight 2547 diverted safely to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport this evening due to a possible issue with the anti-skid system that required landing on a longer runway. We will accommodate our Customers on another aircraft to Dallas Love Field. We appreciate our Customers’ patience, as well as the assistance of our colleagues at DFW and American Airlines in helping us with the aircraft switch. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of its Customers and Employees.”
