AUSTIN (KXAN) — State officials announced the formation of the Texas Legislative U.K. Caucus, which aims to strengthen ties with the United Kingdom.
The caucus is designed to strengthen economic, diplomatic and cultural ties with the United Kingdom, which makes it easier for Texans to do business with British partners.
Texas is already the No. 1 state in exports to the U.K., while the U.K. is the largest overseas investor in the Lone Star State.
“We envision a place where both governments, private enterprise and educational institutions alike can come together to exchange best practices and create lasting and mutual, beneficial initiatives,” said Republican Sen. Tan Parker.
The caucus is also an extension of the trade agreement that Gov. Greg Abbott signed with the U.K.’s secretary of state for business and trade back in spring 2024.
In 2023, Abbott’s office said Texas’s trade with the U.K. totaled $18.2 billion, which makes them the state’s ninth-largest total trade partner.
