Storm damage may delay emissions tests for Texas drivers

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Some Texas drivers may experience delays in getting an emissions test after severe weather damaged a data center connected with Texas vehicle inspections.

Emissions tests are required for vehicle inspections in 17 of Texas’ most-populated counties , including Travis and Williamson County in Central Texas.

The company that operates the Texas Information Management System had its corporate office damaged by severe weather, leaving one of its data centers “inaccessible,” according to a Texas Department of Public Safety release.

DPS said it’s unknown when that data center will be available.

The network is using backup servers, but there may be connectivity issues that could impact drivers at inspection locations, the release said.

DPS said it is working with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and those specific inspection station owners on the issue.
