Chances of stormy conditions are expected in the Dallas-Fort Worth area Monday after Hurricane Beryl reached the Texas coast early Monday morning, weather officials say.
The storm made landfall near Matagorda about 4 a.m. Dallas time, and knocked out power across the Houston area, according to The Associated Press. Beryl will travel through southeast and eastern Texas during the rest of the day, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
The storm will bring heavy rainfall and a threat of flash flooding for eastern North and Central Texas.
Dallas-Fort Worth can expect a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 25 miles an hour Monday, according to the NWS. Monday night is forecast to have a 40% chance of storms and gusts of wind up to 30 miles an hour. A flood watch remains in place for counties east of DFW.
As the storm exits Texas to the northeast, mostly sunny conditions are expected to return Tuesday with a high of 91 degrees, the service said. However, there are chances of wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour.
By next week, high temperatures will once again soar into the upper-90s to 100 degrees, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).
