The Dabney family’s attorney, Steven Wright, said the video answers the question of whether Jamir was hit twice.
MCKINNEY, Texas — A new video shows the tragic moment a McKinney 14-year-old was hit and killed by a vehicle in late December 2024. Jamir Dabney was struck and killed while biking home with two friends. The incident was initially described as a hit-and-run but later considered accidental.
The surveillance video, that WFAA obtained through a public records request, captures images from the evening of Dec. 21 in the area of Lake Forest and Highlands Drive in McKinney. The video is not entirely clear as the location is obscured and the incident occurred late in the evening.
The family’s attorney, Steven Wright, said the video answers the question of whether Jamir was hit twice.
“I believe this video footage shows without question that there was never a question as to if there was a one or two vehicles involved,” Wright said. “There has always been two, and the first driver still has yet to come forward or be identified.”
Police confirmed to WFAA that one driver did stop to render aid. McKinney Police said the video does not conclusively show a second vehicle’s involvement.
The following statement from McKinney Police was provided to WFAA earlier in the week:
“Two vehicles were present in the moments surrounding the incident when Jamir was struck by a vehicle. Police have not been able to identify the driver of the first vehicle, and video evidence does not clearly indicate their involvement in the incident. The video does not provide enough information to identify the driver or the make or model of the car. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and is not under criminal investigation. If new information or evidence regarding the first vehicle emerges, the McKinney Police Department will thoroughly investigate and pursue criminal charges if a crime is found to have occurred.”
Wright tells WFAA that the family has met with the McKinney police chief and has seen this surveillance footage.
“I hope with this evidence being made public now, they publicly acknowledge all the miscommunication that was put out and ask the public to help and they continue to further investigate this to their full capability for the family and the public,” said Wright.
