Police say a suspect has been arrested in connection to the death of a Family Dollar store employee in Dallas.
According to Dallas police, 22-year-old Diavian Roberts was arrested on Dec. 3. Roberts was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and charged with murder.
On Dec. 1, police said officers responded to a call at the Family Dollar store located at 1928 E. Ledbetter Drive. When they got there, they found Tenery Walker, 46, inside the store with a gunshot wound.
Walker was taken to a local hospital where he died.
Police said the preliminary investigation determined that Walker had stepped outside and was confronted by a man, who police said Walker had previously asked to leave the store.
Dallas police believe Roberts shot Walker immediately and ran from the location.
“It’s all senseless,” said customer Calvin Wilson.
Employees from other Family Dollar stores were called in to the location the morning after the shooting to help clean up the store.
“It’s very disturbing, because I come here sometimes during the week,” said customer LaSherrie Hogan.
“I’m like really torn apart this morning. I had no idea none of this was going on,” Hogan continued.
This shooting comes days after a North Texas man shot and killed another man suspected of stealing from a different Family Dollar.
Kevin Jackson, 47, was charged with murder in the incident that happened Nov. 29 at the store located at 3200 S. Lancaster Road. Dallas police said Jackson is accused of shooting and killing a man suspected of shoplifting and arguing with store employees. Police said Jackson had witnessed the fight between the man and the store employees before he pulled out his gun and shot the man.
Surveillance video from the store showed the man hitting an employee and her fighting back before he was shot by Jackson.
Jackson had told police that he was concerned for the safety of the employees at the store.
Jackson faces murder charges in that incident.
“Family Dollars, I really wish they would upgrade their security. I love Family Dollars, but just sometimes I don’t feel really secure,” said Hogan.
Dollar Tree – Family Dollar’s corporate office released the following statement on Friday:
“We are shaken by the separate incidents at two of our Family Dollar stores in Dallas this week and our thoughts and deepest condolences are with all of those affected. The safety of customers and associates is our top priority. We are providing grief counselors for store associates and cooperating fully with local law enforcement.

Dallas police say the investigation into Walker’s death is ongoing.
