The arrest affidavit states that the 22-year-old suspect followed the victim after he honked his horn at him and shot him twice.
FORT WORTH, Texas — A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder after a man was found shot to death in his car near Loop 820 in Fort Worth late last month.
The suspect, 22-year-old Koby Don Burkhart, was charged with murder.
According to the arrest affidavit, on the evening of Jan. 27, the victim, Ricky Langs, honked his horn while stopped behind Burkhart’s car at a roundabout on East Rosedale Street and South Ayers Avenue.
After this, police said Burkhart began following behind Langs along Rosedale Street. After several minutes, Langs reportedly pulled up parallel to Langs’ car and fired twice at the victim. Two gunshots can reportedly be heard on Langs’ dash camera, and he yelled that he had been shot.
Burkhart then reportedly turned southbound onto the East Loop 820 southbound service road away from the scene, the affidavit detailed. The victim reportedly kept driving as well but lost control on the northbound East Loop 820 service road, stopping in the median in the 2800 block of the road.
After finding the suspect vehicle on camera, the affidavit stated that police found the car was registered to Burkhart. On Jan. 28, police executed a search warrant on Burkhart’s home and the vehicle and interviewed him.
Burkhart reportedly told police Langs had pointed a gun at him, the affidavit stated, but he couldn’t describe the gun, only telling police it was “probably black.” No gun was found in Langs’ car.
The affidavit stated that Burkhart told police he grabbed a pistol from the floorboard behind his seat and fired two shots at Langs because he was afraid Langs would shoot him.
Burkhart then told police he hid the gun he used to shoot Langs in a crawl space under his house, the affidavit stated, which police found while executing the search warrant.
Jail records show Burkhart is currently booked in the Tarrant County Jail and has a $500,000 bond.
