SAN ANTONIO – A 51-year-old man was charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with a three-vehicle crash on the Southeast Side that resulted in the death of an 80-year-old woman, according to San Antonio police.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Virginia Alaniz on Monday morning.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of South Presa Street and the Southeast Loop 410 access road.
San Antonio police reported that Roman DeLeon was driving at a high speed on the frontage road when he collided with a vehicle stopped at a red light, crashing it into another vehicle.
DeLeon was found to be driving while intoxicated and was transported to a hospital, police said. Once released, he will be booked for intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury, according to SAPD.
DeLeon’s bond totals $300,000, according to Bexar County court records.
Alaniz was the front-right passenger in the second vehicle. A 21-year-old victim in the same vehicle suffered a possible broken leg and was taken to a hospital. Another passenger was also hospitalized as a precaution.
