I’m truly thrilled to tell you that U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyoming, who has emerged as the nation’s most visible and ardent defender of our democracy, will travel to Austin to be interviewed by me as the closing session of the 2022 Texas Tribune Festival.
The three-term congresswoman, who sought reelection this year but was defeated in her at-large district’s GOP primary, is the vice chair of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol. From 2019 to 2021, she chaired the House Republican Conference, her party’s third-highest leadership position, but was removed from that post for challenging false claims by Donald Trump and his allies that the 2020 election was stolen. Cheney is one of 10 Republicans in the House who voted to impeach the former president following the Jan. 6 insurrection.
We’ll talk about all that and her future plans, including a possible run for president, when we take the stage at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Austin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24.
