Tarrant County Commissioners Court increases homestead property tax exemption to 20%

Commissioners also approved a 20% homestead exemption for the Tarrant County Hospital District.

TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — The Tarrant County Commissioners Court has increased its homestead property tax exemption for the second year in a row, from 10% to 20% during a Tuesday meeting.

Also approved was a 20% homestead exemption for the Tarrant County Hospital District. The savings from these exemptions will be reflected on the property tax bill for next year.

About 404,000 accounts in Tarrant County qualify for the property tax exemption.

Along with these increases, commissioners approved a property tax exemption for properties that house childcare facilities. This is a new exemption that is the result of Texas voters approving Proposition 2 during the November election last year.

Taxing entities like Tarrant County must decide before July 1 whether to offer exemptions and at what percentage.
