Tatum man accused of crafting homemade explosives

   

Ronald Martin, 65, was arrested by RCSO on Oct. 22 and charged with possession of an improvised explosive device and possession of a controlled substance.

TATUM, Texas — A Tatum man was arrested after being accused of crafting homemade explosives.

According to the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies began investigating allegations that improvised explosive devices were being manufactured, possessed and concealed at a property on Rusk County Road 2192. The investigation led to a search warrant being executed at the property on Oct. 7 by RCSO, Tatum PD and Constable Precinct 2 .

RCSO personnel allegedly found two devices believed to be hand thrown improvised explosive devices. Officials notified the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)Tyler Office who responded to the scene and secured the devices. Officials also seized numerous firearms, suspected methamphetamine and suspected marijuana.

Ronald Martin, 65, was arrested by RCSO on Oct. 22 and charged with possession of an improvised explosive device and possession of a controlled substance.

He is currently in Rusk County Jail on bonds totaling $70,000.

The investigation is currently on-going.
