PLANO, Texas — February marks Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a time to address the alarming statistic that one in three teens in the U.S. experiences some form of dating abuse. Many teens are unaware of the warning signs or where to seek help, according to the Plano Texas Police Department.
Warning signs of an unhealthy relationship include extreme jealousy, constant monitoring, insulting behavior, unwanted physical contact, threats, and isolation from friends and family, stated the department. Healthy relationships should be based on trust, respect, and open communication. Local resources such as Hopes Door New Beginning Center and The Family Place offer 24/7 hotlines for those in need. National support is also available through the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Love is Respect.
