Tex-Mex restaurant known for Christmas decor returns in North Texas

The restaurant known for its over-the-top Christmas decor is chugging along after a reboot.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Like its popular toy train, a North Texas Tex-Mex spot known for its over-the-top, year-round Christmas decor is chugging along after a refresh.

Campo Verde, which served up Tex-Mex food amid brightly-colored holiday lights for more than 40 years in the Arlington area before it abruptly closed in January, is back after a reboot that included new owners and a new menu. It was rebooted by award-winning chef Mouhssine “Moose” Benhamacht and co-owner Liesl “Li” Best.

Our content partners at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram report tables are available at the rebooted Campo Verde by reservation only starting June 14.

“This beloved Arlington landmark just got a makeover and new ownership! But don’t worry, the ICONIC duo of 24/7 Christmas magic and Tex-Mex dining is better than ever! And yes, the legendary Christmas train is up and running again, circling the ceilings from room to room,” Visit Arlington Texas posted on social media.

The new menu includes Tex-Mex classics like fajitas, nachos, tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas, as well as some new, more upscale options like steak flambe, pork ribs, roasted chicken, and Biscoff tres leches cake or Rumchata cheesecake for dessert.

Benhamacht and Best also opened Café Americana in Downtown Arlington just over a year ago. Previously, Benhamacht had an eight-year stint with the Loews Hotel hospitality team in Arlington.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Campo Verde’s former longtime chef, Antonio Reyes, left two years ago and is now serving up the restaurant’s original menu at Chente Cafe Brazos River Catfish and Tex-Mex at 10771 I-20 West in Millsap, west of Weatherford.
