Texas A&M alumnus Austin Krajicek and partner Rajeev Ram proved this weekend that they are one of the best pairings in the world when it comes to men’s doubles tennis.
Ram and the Aggies alumnus earned silver medals on Saturday at the Paris 2024 Olympic Summer Games . The American duo lost 7(8)-6(6), 6(1)-7(7), 8-10 to the Australian pair of Matthew Ebden and John Peers.
In the opening round on July 29, Krajicek and Ram defeated another pair of Aussies, Alexei Popyrin and Alex de Minaur, by a final score of 6-2, 6-3. The following day in the second round, Krajicek and Ram beat Thiago Monteiro and Thiago Seyboth Wild from Brazil 6-4, 7(7)-6(3).
The Texas A&M Athletic Hall of Famer and his partner earned their biggest victory in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Krajicek and Ram defeated the juggernaut Spanish pairing of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-4. In singles play, the duo from Spain has combined for 26 grand slam titles.
In the semifinals on Thursday, Krajicek and Ram beat Tomas Machac and Adam Pavlásek from Czechia 6-2, 6-2.
The silver medal is Krajicek’s first overall. Ram adds it to the silver he won in Rio de Janeiro for mixed doubles in 2016.
